Tough Saturday

Well events like the one that happened yesterday are what have taught me to not allow myself to develop any hope towards BYUs football program. When it comes down to it they just don't have what it takes to become one of the nations elites. Dont get me wrong, they can play some incredible games, and can compete with just about anyone in the country...but they are just too inconsistent. They just cant manage to put a full season together. BYU is a great team that pulls together and plays well in many situations, but the fact of the matter is that from time to time they just get out-played by the athleticism of other teams. Florida State was just too fast for BYUs defense and tore them apart. Its too bad....BYU can kiss their magical season goodbye.

The BYU game wasn't the only disappointing outcome from Saturday's lineup. USC lost a tough one to UW up in Seattle but Pete Carroll proved his point of why he chose to start Matt Barkley over Aaron Corp. Corp struggled all game to get anything going for SC. SC was held to just 110 passing yards which is the fewest passing yards SC has posted under Pete Carroll. Hopefully the Trojans can get into a rhythm on offense and begin to score some offensive points like they have been known to do in the past.

Lastly the Utah loss to Oregon just leaves the Mountain West one step further from gaining national respect as one of the country's elite conferences.

Props To Our Boy

Well I thought it would be appropriate to give a shout out to our boy Steven Lenhart who currently playing forward for the Columbus Crew. John and I grew up with Steve. Congrats on the start last night and also on the win. Nice to see one of our boy representing in the professional realm of sports.

I LOVE LA

Alright lets talk Dodgers! These boys are pulling it togther. Ethier walk off in the 13th, unreal, love the guy. Kemp and Belliard homering yesterday, with Kuroda doing well on the mound. We are 5 games up right now and I think we are just starting to get hot. We need Billingsley to find his rhythm and get Kershaw to stop shagging balls, so he can stay healthy. What happens on the mound going down the stretch is so important. This is our time to start to light the fire. Manny needs to get hot going down the stretch and as we all know he has the ability to be huge factor in this teams success. I love the look of our team right now. Some people will question our pitching going into the post season and say that we don't have an ace that you will need to win the world series. But not all teams in the past have had a Schilling or Hamels. If we look at the White Sox win in 2005, we don't find an ace. Now lets also be clear, they had the likes of Buehrle and Garland, who were amazing. Who obviously had a big part in them winning. But I don't think they are in the same category as a Schilling or Hamels. If Broxton can get into his grove and our top 3 starters can also get hot, I see us going deep in the playoffs. THIS IS OUR TOWN!

BOSTON SUCKS

I thought it would be important for everyone to know that i HATE the Boston Red Sox! I dont like one thing about their franchise. I hate the city, the team, and especially the FANS! I cant really think of more obnoxious fans. I cant stand Mike Lowell, Jason Varitek is a joke, Dustin Pedroia is over rated, and Kevin Youkilis needs to trim the goatee. There was no curse in Boston, the Red Sox just sucked for 86 years!!!

Just a shout out to my boy Nathaniel Joseph Grochmal. He played Two seasons with the Kamloops Blazers at RW. The blazers are in the WHL and Mr. Grochmal would likely be playing in the NHL right now if it weren't for his dedication to his personal beliefs. This is just an old picture i scrounged up. Great flow Nate. Are those highlights?

All respect lost for Serena Williams.

I don't know who saw the match between Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters this past weekend but it was a complete disgrace. Serena Williams made a complete fool of herself by yelling uncontrollably at one of the line judges. The line judge apparently called Serena for stepping on the line on one of her serves and Serena let loose!!! Haha it was pathetic. She walked over to this judge waving her racket at her in rage and began screaming at her. She then proceeded to tell her that she was going to shove a tennis ball down her f@#$ing throat! But she wasn't done. She walked back to the line as if she was going to continue play but then returned back to the line judge and continued scolding her!!! At this point the line judge walked away from her and then it was determined that Serena would be charged a point for her behavior. It just so happened that they were at match point so Serena lost the match. BUT COME ON SERENA, have some class. As if the line judge really had it out for you, she was trying to do her job and shes not perfect. Settle down and play the game. You are a professional, you should know how to behavior yourself. 13 year-olds don't act like that. In my opinion she should be suspended from the next grand slam event. That kind of outburst is completely unacceptable.

My Wife

I thought it would be appropriate to introduce our readers to my wife, who plays volleyball at Pepperdine. This is a sports blog and I happend to have quite an athletic wife(thank goodness). So I will be updating y0u from time to time on their season. They actually will be playing UCLA this wednesday at Pepperdine and then traveling to Hawaii to play a set of matches with them on the weekend. Go Waves

Unreal Weekend

Well I have to first add my approval to the previous posts by John. It was an unbelievable weekend in college football. To start off I was able to watch the Michigan game, and I must say with all of the Rodriquez drama in the past weeks, I felt for the guy and really wanted them to pull of a win and especially a big one at home against Notre Dame. My hat goes off to Tate Forcier the freshman QB at Michigan. He was awesome, a 31 yard run for a TD in the fourth is big time playing. That was one the biggest games in that rivalry of those two teams in their history. Next topic is the USC game and I watched the first half before having to leave to go to my wife's volleyball game. But what an exciting first half it was. Both teams looked fairly even at that point. Although as John and I talked about this game, we both agreed that Barkley needs to get some more passes, they almost look like they don't have full confidence in him yet. I wasn't able to see the end and I saw that they were obviously able to make an amazing drive to win the game. And maybe that game wasn't the time for it, but I would like to see it in the future if this minor injury doesn't hold him back. Overall very pumped about the final result. Fight On! Go Trojans!

Another Great Saturday

So i don't think I've ever been so nervous in my life as i was on Saturday night. I actually lost all hope during that USC-Ohio State game. USC had a very difficult time moving the ball on offense during the second half and it all came down to the last drive. The young QB, with the help of McKnight coming out of the backfield, managed to go about 90 yards and score with just over a minute left in the game! What a great game to watch, and how wonderful to see the look on the faces of the OSU fans after that touchdown....PRICELESS!!! By the way, SC has not lost to a BIG 10 team since 1996! what a streak!
Another great game this weekend was the win of Houston over Oklahoma State. That was a HUGE upset! Oklahoma State was ranked 5th and Houston wasn't even ranked. I love to see big upsets like that in College football, just another testament that they need to create a playoff system. Michigan and Notre Dame, who are both desperate for wins at this point, had a classic back and forth game Saturday afternoon. Both are on the hot seat, but who will lose his job first, Charlie Weis or Rich Rodriguez. Its going to be interesting to see how this season of football turns out.

BIG WEEKEND

So here we are on the eve of the big USC-Ohio State game. The game will be played in the horseshoe with approximately 105,000 loud fans. The question is, How will the USC true freshman Matt Barkley play under those circumstances? I have an answer for that question. USC will win the game Saturday night in Columbus for various reasons. First, USC has not lost a non-conference road game since 2006. B, Pete Carroll is one of the best NCAA coaches in the land and he will have, not only Matt Barkley, but his whole team well prepared for this game. And IV, Ohio State barely squeezed out a win last week against an unranked Navy team! Ohio State is over rated year in and year out. They get all the hype all year long because they put up a good record and then they fail miserably every year in their bowl games. Why is it so hard for people to see that not only OSU, but the entire BIG 10 conference is way over rated. When it comes to playing big games outside of the conference the BIG 10 ALWAYS loses. I am excited for USC to prove to the nation tomorrow night, that even with a freshman, they are a serious contender for a national championship this year. I have USC over Ohio State 24-10.

NCAA Football is back!

This first week of college football was magical. Everything from upsets to injurys have helped flip this season's expectations upside-down, and its only been one week. I was thrilled to see Boise State and BYU beat two ranked BSC teams, one of which was ranked in the top 3 with a heisman trophy winner as QB. Plus, Navy was a 2 pt coverstion away from taking THE Ohio State, ranked 6th, into overtime. I am a firm believer that the way the BCS is set up is a complete joke and needs to be changed. I understand that 9 times out of 10 Oklahoma would probably beat BYU but there is always that one time. And, to be quite honest BYU straight up outplayed OU. BYU had over 350 total yards while OU managed only 260 against the cougar defense. Its also notable that the only TD scored by OU was set up by a dropped punt return by BYU therefore giving Oklahoma the ball on BYU's 30 yard line. Now, you would think that after every anaylist in the nation refused to give BYU a chance this weekend people would suck up their pride and admit that BYU played a GREAT game. But no, all we hear about is Bradford's injury and how OU therefore wasnt full strength......pathetic! Sure Bradford was gone, but last time i checked Sam Bradford doesnt play defense! It was OU's defense that allowed Max Hall and the cougar's to march 78 yards in the last 6 minutes of the game to score the winning touchdown. What, Oklahoma's "supreme" juggernaut defense couldnt stop measly BYU??? I dont understand, I thought non-BSC teams dont even deserve to be in the same conversation as the Oklahomas and Floridas. The fact is, BYU outplayed Oklahoma and deserved to win that game. Maybe people will finally realize that just because someone is better on paper doesnt mean they'll win the game. GO BYU.
